Large Turkish Spindle

Here is a large, antique Turkish spindle that my good friend and fiber buddy Laverne of gifted me with a few weeks ago. It’s a lovely piece with wonderful detail. It is surprisingly long which makes me wonder whether it’s for plying or if it was meant to be thigh rolled. There is a delightful diversity of spindles and their usage in that area of the world so it’s hard to know without seeing it in use, I would think. The spindle is seventeen and a quarter inches long and 3.71 oz. Surprisingly it’s weight isn’t all that noticeable when handling it. This is a lovely piece and Im very happy to have received it.
